Are Your Presentations on PAR?

Would you like to get better results from meetings and presentations? The PAR technique can help.

PAR Technique—Purpose-Action-Result

The PAR technique is useful to start meetings, presentation, and even one-on-one engagements. It can also be a useful approach for voice mail (and even written documents such as e-mail). A 30-secone PAR statement helps your audience understand why they are listening to you and what's in it for them to do so (WIIFM).

Following is an example of a PAR — Purpose-Action-Result — statement:

Purpose: In the next hour, I'd like to share with you the six most important aspects of effective written communication.

Action: What I'd like you to do is consider how well you already execute these principles in your own writing.

Result: If you implement the strategies I outline this afternoon, you will save time, gain productivity, increase your confidence, and write more effective documents to your customers and colleagues.
